A supporter of Friendship Bridge and Lake Atitlán area resident Robert Hinshaw used oral histories to create two fictitious novels: “My Lake at the Center of the World,” and “The Rape of Hope”.

For The Rape of Hope, Robert Hinshaw interviewed Mayan lawyers, artists, politicians and religious leaders from 1963 through the 1980s to provide a look at indigenous rituals as well as beliefs between different groups of people in the area.
