Micaela Garcia
Micaela, a 59-year-old woman from Cantel, Quetzaltenango, has been a client of Friendship Bridge for eight years, demonstrating remarkable resilience and determination in overcoming poverty and gender discrimination in Guatemala. Growing up as the fourth of six children, Micaela's education was limited to the second grade due to cultural biases against girls' education. Despite these challenges, Micaela's entrepreneurial spirit led her to learn machine weaving and embroidery, skills that later became invaluable.
